Frequently asked questions
1. Do I need to bring a snack daily?
Lunch is not until 11:30 and most children get hungry before lunch time. We recommend bringing a snack each day.
2. Can I stay with my child if they are having a difficult time separating from me in the morning?
All non-school personnel (parents) must be off campus by 8am. Parents must have a volunteer pass from the office to be in campus during school hours (8:00-2:15). We have found that children learn to separate more easily when the parent leaves after saying goodbye. Coming back to the class can lead to confusion in which the child thinks their parent will keep coming back in the door. This generally prolongs crying and separation anxiety.
3. Can I pick my child up early from school?
Yes you can, but you have to notify the office in advance. You can call the office the day before or in the morning and let them know what time you will be picking your child up. Your child will either be sent to the office or the office will tell you that you can come to the classroom.
3. Can someone else pick up my child?
If the person picking up your child is not in their file (i.e. aunty, friend), you must notify the office. For your child's safety, the office will check the person's ID before releasing your child to any unknown person.
4. Can I volunteer?
We will send home a notice for any activities that may require volunteers, such as field trips or special guest activities.
5. How will I know how my child is doing in class?
A daily communication folder is sent home in your child's backpack. Each day will have notes on daily activities. You can also write comments and questions for me to read. Every quarter, you will receive a progress report on your child's IEP goals. In addition, the back of your child's communication folder has their progress folio to let you know what skills they have acquired in the areas of: letter sounds, number recognition, color recognition, and shape recognition. You can also email me.
